A shelf, a handrail or a worktop has to fit the room it's going into. I take on practical carpentry jobs around the home, from replacing kitchen cabinet doors to making a useful bench for an awkward space.

The practical bits
Not an exhaustive list. If your job sounds similar, send me a photo and I'll take a look.
Real walls aren't always straight, and the gap you want to use may be wider at one end than the other. I measure the space and work out how to make the timber sit neatly against it. That can mean scribing an edge to follow a wall rather than leaving a noticeable gap. It matters on visible work such as a radiator cover, a window bench or a run of skirting.
If you're planning to make more of an alcove or a difficult corner, my shelving and fitted storage work covers cupboards and shelves built around the space.
A kitchen doesn't always need replacing because a few details are tired. I can make and fit cabinet doors to sit with an existing kitchen, or help finish work on an oak worktop. Sink cut-outs need careful measuring and a tidy edge, particularly when the worktop is going to remain on show. Send photos of what's there now and what you want to change so I can see how the new work should meet the old.
For smaller finishing jobs alongside the carpentry, have a look at home repairs and finishing work.
A properly placed stair handrail makes everyday use of the stairs easier. Radiator covers and window benches can make an otherwise difficult stretch of wall more useful, too. I look at the fixings, the surrounding trim and how the finished piece will sit in the room, not just the dimensions on a sketch.
I'm based locally; if you're looking for a handyman in Stratford-upon-Avon for one carpentry job or several smaller ones, send me clear photos and rough measurements. I'll tell you whether it's something I can help with.
I also build timber decking for gardens in and around Stratford-upon-Avon, from a simple deck outside the back door to replacing tired boards, steps or edging on one you already have. Send a few photos of the area with rough measurements and tell me how you'd like to use it.
Alongside carpentry I take on small building jobs – the sort of work that's too small for a larger builder to fit in. If it's mostly timber, fixing and finishing, send it over; for a list of smaller bits, see my small handyman jobs page.
Close to home
I'm based in Stratford-upon-Avon and do this work across nearby towns too:
I also take on jobs in Wellesbourne, Alcester, Henley-in-Arden and Shipston-on-Stour.
Show me the space and what you'd like made or fitted – a rough sketch or measurements help too. I'll let you know if it's something I can make work.
Send job photos on WhatsAppSend me photos of the existing doors, hinges and cabinets, plus rough measurements. I can then look at what needs making and how it would fit with what's already there.
Yes. A single handrail, worktop detail or piece of trim is worth asking about. You don't need to be planning a whole room.
Send me a few photos on WhatsApp with rough sizes and a short description. I'll let you know if I can help and give you an idea of the cost.
